
Volleyball Falls to No. 17 Tennessee

Kelsey Fautsch had 25 kills to lead No. 17 ranked Tennessee to a 30-32, 30-28, 30-24, 31-29 win over Louisville in collegiate volleyball action in Knoxville Tuesday night.
U of L moves to 6-5, with the Volunteers moving to 9-3. U of L outhit UT .209 to .208 and outblocked their opponents 16.5 to 10. U of L was led by Ana YArtseva Stewart wtho has 12 kills, 12 digs and 12 blocks for a triple double. Svetlana Dukule added 10 kills and seven blocks.
"This is becoming a heated rivalry as both our programs strive to stay in the national spotlight," said U of L coach Leonid Yelin. "We are continuing to learn our roles and work on eliminating unforced errors."
In the first game, Tennessee kept the Cardinals scrambling as the Vols went up 18-14. U of L used both its timeouts and the Vols got to game point at 29-23. The Cardinals used three straight blocks by Jana Matiasovska and Ana Yartseva Stewart as part of a six point run that tied the game at 29. Louisville native Mindy Flynn blocked Stephanie Marsh to take the Vols up one at 30-29. A kill by Yartseva Stewart tied the score at 30 and a kill by Tatyana Kolesnikova and a lift by Tennessee gave U of L the unlikely comeback win. The Cards hit .264 to UT's .255.
In the second game, U of L fell behind by four at 19-15 but ran off three straight to come to within one on an ace by Matiasovska. After a timeout, the Vols ran off four points to go up 23-19. The Cardinals scored six unanswered points to take a 25-22 lead. The teams traded points with the Cardinals carving a slim two point lead at 27-25. The Vols went on a 6-1 run to even the game score at one going into the break. Kelsey Fautsch led the Vols with six kills.
UT jetted out to a 17-7 lead in the third game before the Cardinals clawed their way back to within one at 23-22. Tennessee called timeout and then pulled together a 7-2 run to win the third game 30-24.
In the fourth game, U of L used an 8-3 run to go up three at 20-17 and force a UT timeout. The Vols regrouped and ran off on a 6-2 run to go up 23-22 with Yelin calling timeout. The teams traded points before tying at both 28 and 29. Two straight kills by Fautsch ended the match.
