
Volleyball Sweeps UMKC 30-19, 30-25, 30-18

Stephanie Marsh had 11 kills, six digs and four blocks to lead the No. 12-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a 30-19. 30-25, 30-18 sweep of Missouri-Kansas City in the final match of the Hampton Inn Downtown Classic Saturday night in Cardinal Arena.
U of L moves to 2-1 on the season and UMKC remains winless after three matches. U of L's Rui Liu and Stephanie Marsh earned All-Tournament honors in the win.
"We had several players who had a good hitting game tonight," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "We served aggressively and had a nice blocking effort."
The Cardinals outhit UMKC .330 to .058 and notched eight service aces with 10 team blocks. U of L's Rui Liu had five kills on nine attacks to hit .556 to lead all hitters. Svetlana Dukule added eight to the effort.
U of L ran out to a 12-6 lead and UMKC could get no closer. U of L hit a torrid .387 to UMKC's .050 and had five blocks. Stephanie Marsh had four kills to lead the way. Cardinal hitting cooled to .273 in the second game. UMKC's 8-2 run brought the Kangaroos to within one at 25-24 but the Cardinals ran off five straight for the win. Tatyana Kolesnikova came off the bench to boost the offense with four kills and an ace.
UMKC gave U of L cause for concern when they went on an 8-1 run to come within two at 18-16. However, they were able to score just two more points as U of L powered to a 12-2 run for the win.
