
Volleyball Sweeps Rutgers 30-15, 30-17, 30-12

Sophomore outside hitter Jana Matiasovska had 14 kills, three aces and a block to lead the University of Louisville to a 30-15, 30-17, 30-12 win over visiting Rutgers in BIG EAST volleyball action Saturday afternoon in Cardinal Arena.
"It is just good to be back home in Cardinal Arena after playing five straight on the road," said Leonid Yelin. "We have such a good home court advantage. We were serving very well today and hitting well."
U of L improves to 10-6 and 4-1 in BIG EAST play. The Scarlet Knights fall to 5-10 andc 2-3 in the league. It was the fewest points allowed by the Cardinals all season as U of L hit a toasty .479 and outblocked RU 11.5-2. The Cardinals had a season-high 12 aces led by Matiasovska's three.
U of L used an 11-3 run in the first game combined with .378 hitting to win 30-15. Matiasovska paced the Cards with 7 kills on 11 swings and no errors. The Cardinals kept the heat on the Knights in the second set with .483 hitting led by Tatyana Kolesnikova who came off the bench to notch four kills. Nine Cardinal aces kept .RU from getting any momentum going as they won 30-17. A 14-2 run in the final set sealed th Knights doom as they tied the lowest point total of a single game with 30-12 loss.
Senior Stephanie Marsh stepped up with .500 hitting with 11 kills and 13 digs. Svetlana Dukule hit .600 with nine kills on 15 attacks and no errors. Samantha Dabbs had a match-high 40 assists and Lecia Brown recorded eight blocks. Rutgers was led by Lora Yankauskas who had nine kills and six digs.
U of L returns to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when Villanova visits Cardinal Arena as conference play continues.
