
Volleyball Brings Huskies to Heel 3-1

Ana Yartseva Stewart had 17 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Connecticut in BIG EAST volleyball action Sunday evening in Storrs.
U of L improved to 9-6 and 3-1 in the BIG EAST with the 30-21, 25-30, 30-23, 30-26 win. UConn moves to 11-6 and 1-3 in the league.
The Cardinals hit .221 as team with six aces and 18 blocks. UConn was held to .119 team hitting and just eight blocks. The Huskies did not help their cause with 12 service errors. Jana Matiasovska had 10 kills and six blocks with Tatyana Kolesnikova adding 10 kills and three blocks for the Cardinals. Samantha Dabbs had 48 assists and four aces.
In the first game,took an early 12-7 lead and drew UConn into an early timeout. Louisville extended its lead when it scored four straight points and built their lead to 20-12. The Cardinals never led in game two and suffered from -.054 hitting. U of L got to within one at 15-14 but the Huskies ran off four straight points behind to reestablish the lead. Louisville looked to make a run late after trailing 24-18. But the Huskies tooki game two at 30-25.
Blocking was the difference in the third set. The two teams stayed close as points went back and forth until Louisville capitalized on two straight blocks to go up 22-17 UConn tried to keep the Cardinals within reach, but Samantha Dabbs used a service ace to claim game three for the Cardinals at 30-23. The final match was tight and the two teams tied at 25 but late attack errors by the Huskies allowed Louisville to take the game and match 30-26.
