
Women's Soccer Names Sarah Popper Assistant Coach

LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville women's soccer team has named Sarah Popper as its new assistant coach.
"Sarah is a wonderful addition to our Cardinal coaching staff. I have had the pleasure of coaching her while she was a student athlete at the University of Connecticut and I know she will coach with the same energy and passion she played with as a student athlete," noted Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
The Greenwich, Connecticut native was an NSCAA First Team All-American and First Team All-BIg EAST at UCONN as co-captian her senior season, leading the Huskies to a BIG EAST championship. She was a BIG EAST First Team selection as a junior and a member of the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team as a freshman.
"Sarah will add invaluable playing experience to our program as she was an outstanding college soccer player and was honored as an All American her senior year. She also was drafted to play for the Boston Breakers in the WUSA after her senior year in college where they went on to win the WUSA regular season championship," Ferguson added.
Popper was tabbed as the 27th overall pick in the 2003 WUSA draft by the Breakers and played there for two seasons.
She graduated from UCONN in 2003 with a degree in sports marketing, and began her coaching career as a student assistant at UCONN for a season beofre earning a promotion as a full-time volunteer assistant last fall. She also assisted the Girls U-14 CFC Premier coaching staff.
As a player and coach Popper has worked clinics at Penn State and the Pioneer Soccer School as well as camps and clinics with the WUSA and the Breakers.
The 2004 Cardinals posted a school record 12 wins(12-5-3), advancing to the semifinals of the C-USA Tournament in Saint Louis.
