
No. 7 Volleyball Beats Georgetown

Lena Ustymenko had 21 kills and four blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Georgetown in BIG EAST Conference action in Washington, DC late Friday night.
U of L improved to 22-1 and 10-1 in the conference with the 30-18, 28-30, 30-25, 30-9 win. Georgetown falls to 6-19 and 2-10 in the league. U of L hit .344 and outblocked Georgetown 23-7 for the win.
"We took a bit of time to adjust to the different lineup and then we got back on track after the second game," said Leonid Yelin. "They played with a lot of emotion and we just had to wait it out and take care of business."
In the first game, U of L sped out to a 12-4 lead led by Lena Ustymenko's five kills. The Hoyas cut the lead to six at 22-16 but .556 hitting by the Cardinals made that an uphill climb. U of L outblocked Georgetown 5-1 with Rui Liu leading the way with two solos and two assists in the first set. Libero-turned-setter Kristie Wetterer, who was filling in for the ailing starter Jennifer Craven, had seven assists.
Georgetown rallied in the second game, pulling out to an 18-9 lead. The Cardinals seemed to respond to the challenge by going on an 11-2 run and then pushed to a one-point lead at 25-24. The teams tied at 26 before Georgetown scrambled for a 4-1 push down the stretch. Georgetown hit just .125 in the set and was outblocked 7-2, but it was enough for the 30-28 win.
Louisville couldn't shake a tenacious Hoya squad in the third set. After tying at 12, U of L was finally able to find some breathing space with a 9-3 rin to go up 21-15. Georgetown showed some spunk and cut the lead to four at 24-20 but it was too little, too late as U of L took the game 30-25. despite hitting a tepid .174.
The Hoyas lost their head of steam in the fourth and final game. The Cardinals went on a 17-2 run and held Georgetown to a season low nine points.
U of L's Rui Liu and Stephanie Marsh each had 10 kills for U of L. Hoffman added 11 blocks and six kills. Georgetown was led by Rachel Nelson who had 12 kills and reached the 1,000 career kill mark.
