Swimming Sweeps Kenyon

The University of Louisville women's and men's swimming and diving teams touched first in every race but one to sweep visiting Kenyon Saturday at the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium. The U of L men won 162-95 and the Cardinal women won 146.5-110.5.
"This was a great outing for this time of year, we battled injury and sickness and had to change our lineup at the last minute. We showed out depth and really stepped up today. We just had some great swims," said U of L coach Arthur Albiero.
Highlights for the women included Melanie Greyling's win in the grueling 1650-free after which she swam the 200-free and won there as well. Rebecca Clark showed speed with a great 100-free effort for the Cardinals. Emily Rabe held off the field with a win in the 50-free. Leslie Van Winkle helped the point total with three wins. She touched first in the 100-back, 200-breast and the 400-IM for the Cardinals.
"I am proud of the effort today and the way they have been training consistently and performing when it counts," said Albiero.
The men's side was equally dominate with freshman Vali Preda and sophomore Andrei Teudean each notching multiple wins. Teudean won the 100-fly and the 100-back and was part of the winning 200-medley relay team. Preda won the 100- and 200-breaststroke and touched first in the 400-IM. He also swam on the winning 200-medley relay team. Senior Jon Farnham won the 50-free, just out-touching his teammate Matt Maley who finished .03 behind him.
"Senior Matt Lees swam a great 200-free. It was an inspired swim," said Albiero. "I am proud of the effort and the versatility we showed. We moved people around and were still able to perform at a winning level."
The Cardinals are back in action Nov. 18-20 at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington. Their next home meet will be to face in-state rival Kentucky January 21 at 1 p.m. in the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium.
