
Volleyball Sweeps Loyola (Md.) 30-25, 30-20, 30-14

Freshman outside hitter Svetlana Dukule had 12 kills to lead the University of Louisville to a 30-25, 30-20, 30-14 sweep of Loyola (Maryland) in the U of L Courtyard by Marriott Tournament.
The Cardinals improve to 2-0 and the Greyhounds fall to 0-2.
"We are continuing to explore lineup possibilites and get everyone some playingtime," said Leonid Yelin. "It was good to see our hitters come alive, but we still need to work on our serving and our serve receive."
Although, the Cardinals recorded nine aces, led by Dukule's three, they also had 10 service errors and were aced six times. Loyola was unable to record even a single block, while the Cardinals notched eight team blocks.
"We had the height advantage but I give them credit for their hustle and defense," said Yelin.
In the first game, seven service errors overshadowed U of L's .408 hitting. Stephanie Marsh led the Cardinals with six kills and a block in that set. Loyola stayed close in he early going until U of L edged to a 28-20 lead on an ace by Dukule. Loyola reeled off four straight points including two aces to get within four at 28-24. A service error by the Greyhounds took U of L to game point and a kill by Marsh sealed the win.
Loyola allowed the Casrdinals to run out to a 16-5 lead in the second set. They were able to cut the Cardinal lead to six at 25-19 on a cill by Jamie Arndt. But it was too little, too late as the Cardinals outscored LU 5-1 down the stretch for the win.
The Cardinals powered out to a 23-12 lead in the third set while hitting .409. The Greyhounds expended both timeouts to try and stop the Cardinal momentum but fell 30-14.
Freshman setter Elena Pilnikova had 30 assits and two aces for the Cardinals. Marsh and senior Bing Sun had eight and nine kills respectively. The Greyhounds were led by Becky Corb's 10 kills and four aces.
