
Volleyball Sweeps Morehead State

Lena Ustymenko had 10 kills, 10 digs and two blocks to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a 30-12, 30-27, 30-27 sweep of Morehead State in collegiate volleyball action Tuesday night at Cardinal Arena.
No. 22-ranked U of L boosts its record to 12-2 and the Eagles fall to 4-11.
"It doesn't matter if a team is ranked or not, you have to take your intrastate rivalry seriously," said Leonid Yelin. "Our blocking and aggressive play at the net made a difference tonight."
Morehead State didn't help its cause with 18 service errors and a .104 hitting percentage. U of L outblocked the Eagles 13-1, for the biggest block margin of the season. U of L has not been outblocked all season.
U of L's .619 hitting helped the Cardinals to an 8-2 lead in the early going. Morehead used both its time-outs but were outscored 11-3 down the stretch. U of L had 13 kills and no errors on 21 attacks. The Cardinals outblocked Morehead 7-0 in that game.
Up 23-13, U of L had to stave off a 10-4 Morehead run that brought the Eagles to within two at 29-27. Ana Yartseva scored on a slide to end the comeback. Morehead's hitting improved to .205 in the second game led by Jennifer Kennedy's five kills. Ustymenko had six of 10 kills in that set.
In the final game, Morehead State took its first lead at 10-9 on an ace by Johanna Thompson. U of L battled back and regained the lead for good at 23-20.
U of L returns to Conference USA action this weekend when South Florida and UAB visit.
