
Swimming and Diving Sweep Cincinnati in Home Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Cincinnati in the Cardinals' home opener Friday at Crawford Pool. The U of L women won 132.50-84.50, while the men topped the Bearcats 118-84.
Cardinal freshman Amanda Taylor set a new school record in the 1000-free with a time of 10:23.37. Sophomore Heather Ming won two events: the 200-IM; 200-breast and finished second in the 200-fly. Junior Angie Nicolletta took the 100-free.
On the men's side, freshman Charlton Lawson set a U of L school record in the 1000-free with a time of 9:37.86. Freshman Tyler Smith finished second in the 1000-free- also above the previous record- with a 9:43.28 mark. Freshman Adam Madarassay took three events: the 200-free, 200-fly and 500-free. Freshman Andrei Teudean won the 200-free.
"We had a great all-around team effort and performance," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "This was an exciting meet and we are extremely pleased with the intensity of our young team. We had a lot of freshmen playing big roles and great team leadership shown by our upperclassmen. Tonight was an important confidence booster at this point in the season."
The Cardinals will play host to Ohio State Friday, Nov. 5 at 5:00 p.m. at Crawford Pool.
