
Cardinals Down Saint Louis 72-51 Friday Evening

Louisville, Ky. - The Louisville Cardinals used a 15-0 run late in the first half to post a 72-51 victory over Saint Louis Friday evening in Freedom Hall. Senior point guard Sara Nord hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and led the Cardinals with 23 points. Angel Bradley finished with 19 points and Jazz Covington added 12. Jana Haywood led Saint Louis with 16 points.
Senior Angie Lewis helped the Billikens grab an early lead as she scored six of the team's first 12 points. Then Nord heated up from beyond the arc sinking three 3-pointers as the Cardinals came back to take a 16-12 lead. The Billikens tied the gameat 16 with 8:39 remaining in the first half, but Nord drilled another long trey as UofL regained the lead at 19-16.
The Cards then went on a 15-2 run to take a 34-18 lead. Nord then connected on her fifth and sixth treys of the half to extend the Cardinal lead with 2:26 left before the break. The Billiken's Jana Haywood finally broke the Bills' dry spell with a layup at the 1:33 mark. In the final minute, Stephanie Solomon muscled inside for a short basket to cut the deficit to 34-22 at intermission.
The Cardinals opened the second half on a 9-2 run to extend its lead to 43-24. The Billikens cut into the lead, but Nord hit her seventh trey. The Cardinals pushed the lead to as much as 26 points with 3:54 remaining.
Nord finished the game with two steals, setting a new school career record with 276 steals.
Louisville will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 18 as they host Memphis in Freedom Hall at 2:00 p.m.
