WILDER, KY - The University of Louisville women's soccer team lost its initial road game of the 2003 slate 3-0 at the hands of Xavier.
"The final result was in no way indicative of the way we played tonight," observed Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"We played well-very well at times, but we couldn't capitalize on our opportunities, and they capitalized on our two critical mistakes," added Ferguson.
The teams were scoreless heading into the break, with the Cards(0-1-1) holding a 8-6 shot advantage.
Xavier broke the ice with a goal by Amber Silvis in the 49th minute. In the 60th minute Lindsay Yonadi converted a free kick for a 2-0 Xavier advantage, and Lauren Giesting closed the scoring six minutes later.
Despite being outscored 3-0 in the second half, U of L doubled up Xavier(2-1-0) 10-5 on shots in the second stanza and 18-11 overall.
Freshman Liz Kinny lead the Cardinal attack with six shots. Junior Lisa Martin, and freshmen Jamie Craft and Lindsay Scheer each had three shots on goal.
Mandy Rost, Amy Seng and Tara Weatherford each had one shot on goal.
The Cardinals will host Morehead State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park. Admission is free and there is a free youth clinic preceding the game at 11:00 a.m.
