INDIANAPOLIS - Three Cardinals placed among the top seven in the discus to lead the University of Louisville men's track and field team at the Butler Twilight Saturday in Indianapolis.

Freshman Arthur Turland led the way with a second-place throw of 50.10 meters in the 64-man competition. The runner-up finish marked the seventh time this year that Turland has finished in the top two in the event. Turland also finished seventh in the hammer throw (51.14m) and eighth in the shot put (14.52m).

Junior Troy Williams had a personal-best throw of 49.63 meters to place third in the discus, the sixth time this spring he has finished among the top four. Freshman Brandon Cook was seventh with a toss of 46.36 meters.

In the pole vault, junior Eric Cockley tied for seventh after clearing 15 feet. Sophomore Jeff Adams tied for 10th with a height of 14-6.

Senior Mike Horan set a personal record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:12.70.

Junior John Blackwell placed ninth in the shot put (14.47m) and Robert McCune was 10th in the 100-meter dash (11.19) to round out the Cardinals' top 10 finishers.

The Cardinals also had a few runners compete at the Jesse Owens Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend.

Junior Dennis Wolff led the way with a seventh-place showing in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.68. Freshman Vernon Stephen placed 10th in 1:56.01.

Senior Tim Franxman came in seventh in the 1500-meter run (4:01.44).

The Cards return to action Sunday when they travel to Bloomington to compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational.
