Louisville, Ky. - Louisville used a 23-4 run midway through the first half to defeat Southern Miss 93-61 Sunday afternoon in Freedom Hall. Senior Lori Nero led all scorers with 23 points and Sara Nord added 17 points. Dana Jones led Southern Miss with 17 points.
At the 17:41 mark of the first half, Nord nailed a three-pointer to start the Cardinal run. Nord and freshman Connie Neal hit four consecutive three-pointers in the next three minutes to pull ahead 23-7 at the 14:25 mark.
Louisville shot an impressive 69.2 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from behind the arc in the first half. The Cardinal defense held the Lady Eagles to just 29.6 percent shooting in the first half and forced 14 turnovers.
The Cardinals continued to build on its 48-27 halftime lead in the second half. The started the half with an 11-3 run in the first four minutes. Louisville's shooting cooled a bit, hitting just 41.9 percent from the field in the second half.
Neal finished the game with 12 points and Angel Bradley added nine. The Cards finished the game shooting 54.4 percent and holding Southern Miss to 35.8 percent shooting and forcing 25 turnovers.
Louisville will head to the road next weekend to face East Carolina Friday evening and Charlotte on Sunday. Sunday's matchup with Charlotte will be televised live on WFTE at 3:00 p.m.
