
Women's Basketball Defeats Detroit 64-40

Detroit, Mich. - The Louisville Cardinals held the Detroit Titans to just two field goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half for a 64-40 win in Calihan Hall Saturday afternoon. Sara Nord led the Cardinals with 18 points. Freshman Jazz Covington finished with 11 points and nine rebounds and Katie Olson finished with 10 points.
Nord started the second half with back-to-back three pointers to put the Cards up 35-25 with 17:13 left to play. Nord sparked the 21-4 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to go up 50-27.
Louisville finished the game shooting 42 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from behind the arc. The Cardinal defense held Detroit to just 19.2 percent shooting in the second half.
The Cardinals got off to a slow start in the first half. They led 6-4 early but fell behind 19-10 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Louisville then held the Titans scoreless for four minutes to go on an 11-0 run, when Olson tied the score with a jumper at the 4:23 mark. The Titans pulled ahead 23-21 on the next possession but would not score again. The Cards then went on an 8-0 run to finish out the half with a 29-23 lead.
Louisville finished the first half shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc. Detroit finished the half shooting 35.7 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from arc.
Louisville will be back in the friendly confines of Freedom Hall on Dec. 28 as they host Florida Atlantic at 2:00 p.m.
