
Women's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The University of Louisville women's basketball lost a heartbreaker 68-65 to Chattanooga on Tuesday evening in McKenzie Arena. Freshman Katie Olson led the Cardinals with 16 points. Tiffani Roberson led the Lady Mocs with 20 points. Three other Cardinals scored double figures, Jazz Covington had 14, Sara Nord added 14 and Nina Simotes finished with 10. Nord finished the game with nine assists and four steals.
The Cardinals led the game until the 3:48 mark in the second half when Chattanooga's Roberson hit two free throws to tie the game at 61. The Lady Moc's Katasha Brown hit a jumper to put Chattanooga ahead 63-61 with three minutes remaining.
Olson got lose for a layup with 33 seconds remaining and then pulled down a rebound on a Lady Moc missed basket. The Cards had a chance to tie it in the final minutes but Nord had the ball knocked away and saved the ball in the backcourt but was called for a backcourt violation.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 43.9 percent and 21.7 percent from behind the arc. The Lady Mocs shot 40.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc. Chattanooga outrebounded the Cardinals 39-37.
The Cardinals started the game with an 8-0 run in the first three minutes of play. The Lady Mocs scored their first basket after going scoreless for the first four minutes. Louisville's biggest lead was 12 points in the first period. The Cardinals never relinquished the lead in the first half, going into the lockeroom with a 34-27 lead.
Louisville shot 45.2 percent in the first half while holding Chattanooga to just 31.0 percent shooting for the half. Nord led the Cards with 10 first half points and six assists.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday in the Vanderbilt Tournament as they play Princeton at 5:00 p.m.
