EVANSVILLE, IN - University of Louisville freshman Jamie Craft scored her sixth goal of the season in overtime lifting the Cards to a 1-0 victory over the University of Evansville Purple Aces Sunday in women's soccer action at Black Beauty Field in Evansville.
"We knew this was going to be a battle from the get-go and it's great to see our team meet this challenge," remarked assistant coach Tim Nowak.
The teams battled for nearly 100 minutes without a goal before Craft took a feed from teammate Liz Kinny with just under 43 seconds remaining in the first overtime session to give U of L(5-4-2) the win.
Louisville's Meredith Miller posted four saves, giving her 4.5 shutouts on the season, and one shutout away from setting a Cardinal record. Her 7.5 shutouts for her career has her alone in fourth place at U of L.
Evansville(2-7-2) outshot Louisville for the match 14-13, and had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks over the Cardinals. Kinny paced the Cards with four shots, while Craft added three. Amy Seng and Kim Jents had two shots apiece.
The Cards will host a pair of matches this weekend, facing Murray State Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Cardinal Park and Sunday against Marquette at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free to all home matches.
