Lena Ustymenko had 16 kills, two aces and two blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 30-15, 30-14, 30-23 win over Charlotte in Conference USA volleyball action Saturday night in Charlotte.
Louisville improves to 11-4 and 4-1 in C-USA play. Charlotte drops to 6-18 and 0-6 in the league.
"We had good ball control and passed well and kept our spots, that helped our transitions. We played musch better today. I hope this a sign of good things to come," said head coach Leonid Yelin.
In the first game U of L burst out to a 14-3 lead and the 49ers could not get any closer than 10. The Cards had four aces with Bing Sun and Sonja Percan each getting two apiece. Charlotte hit .049 and had four service errors in the loss. The Cardinals are undefeated this year when they win the first game.
Louisville had nine unanswered points in the second game to go up 22-10. The Cardinals hit .452 in the game to Charlotte's .029. Ana Yartseva came off the bench and had three kills on three consecutive attacks.
Charlotte regrouped after the break and fought to tie the Cardinals at 11 and then built a two point lead at 19-17 on an ace by Jessica Kelly. The Cradinals answered with a 7-1 run to take back the lead and cruise to the 30-23 victory.
Setter Jennifer Craven had a double double with 29 assists and a match-high 15 digs. Benny Flynn had a block and two kills for the Cardinals.
