LOUISVILLE, KY - The Marquette Golden Eagles picked up a late goal to edge the University of Louisville 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Park in women's soccer action.
"There is not a single part of me that is disappointed in our effort. We put together a solid ninety minutes," assessed Cardinal Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
The two teams battled to a scoreless first half. Cardinal keeper Meredith Miller made three saves in the half, while her counterpart Katie Bissen stopped two Cardinal attempts, including a header by Mandy Rost on a cross from freshman Jamie Craft in the 13th minute.
The Golden Eagles hit a pair of crossbars in the second half before Anne Ioder broke through in the 82nd minute on a feed from Ashley George.
Miller finished with five saves, while Bissen had four. The Golden Eagles(7-6-1, 4-2-0) had 17 shots, six of which were on goal, while the Cards(6-5-2, 1-3-1) had four of their seven shots on net.
The Cardinals hit the road for a two game set over the weekend beginning Friday at Saint Louis and Sunday in Chicago against DePaul. U of L returns home on October 24th to host East Carolina in Cardinal Park at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free to all home matches.
