University of Louisville senior divers Sean Wilkinson and Jerilyn Drummond swept their events but it wasn't enough as the men's and women's team fell to Virginia Tech. The men fell 142-90 with the women being edged 136-87 in the Cardinals' season opener.
Both squads post a 0-1 record.
"We did a good job for our first meet," said first year coach Arthur Albiero. "This will give us something to judge ourselves on as we begin our schedule."
Drummond and Wilkinson won both 1- and 3-meter boards and freshman Marianne Bradford took second on the 3-meter and third on the 1-meter.
She wasn't the only freshman with a strong performance. Albiero was pleased with freshman Dale Parker's performance in the 100-breast. He swam a 1:00.38, faster than anyone swam that event all of last season.
"Our freshmen really stepped up as they made the transition from high school to college smoothly.
Veteran Joseph Mittle had a second place in the 100-back with a :54.47.
