LOUISVILLE, KY - Freshman Liz Kinny had two goals and an assist Friday, leading the University of Louisville Cardinal women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Murray State at Cardinal Park.
"I like the fact that we had a shutout and put together ninety strong minutes," observed U of L Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
Sophomore Hollie Minogue notched her first goal of the season with assists going to Freshmen Jamie Craft and Kinny just five minutes into the match, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
Kinny then lost her defender out top and blasted a shot past Racer goalkeeper Karen Fitzharris in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 Louisville advantage. It was Kinny's fourth on the season.
"Coach tells us to dribble in the middle of the field, I lost the defender, saw the goalie was out of position and shot," said Kinny, explaining her first goal.
Kinny's second of the game and fifth of the season was another strong shot, this one inside the 18 on the left side on a feed from Craft in the 52nd minute.
Cardinal keeper Meredith Miller played just over 73 minutes, while making a save. She and Angie Gangel combined on the shutout, with Gangel also adding a save in her 17 plus minutes of work.
The Cardinals dominated the game from beginning to end, outshooting the Racers 17-4. Tara Weatherford lead the Cards with six shots, while Kinny, Craft and Kim Jents had two shots apiece. Craft had two assists in the match.
Louisville is now 6-4-2 on the season, with the six wins marking the most since the 1997 season when the team went 7-13-0 under Tony Colavecchia. The Racers drop to 3-7-3 with the loss.
Louisville hosts Marquette in Conference USA action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in Cardinal Park. Admission is free.
