
Volleyball Sweeps Miami of Ohio

ATLANTA -- Bing Sun had 20 kills and three blocks to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a three-game sweep of Miami of Ohio at the Georgia Tech Invitational..
Louisvlle improved to 4-1 with the 34-32, 30-25, 30-17 win. Miami falls to 3-3.
"It was very important for us to come back strong after the loss to Georgia Tech and the loss of Sonja Percan," said Yelin. "I was glad to see Bing step up and take up the slack."
In the first game, Miami bolted from the gate to an 8-3 lead before Louisville battled back to tie at ten on a kill by Stacey Mercer. The teams seesawed, tying at 13, 15, 17, 18 before the Redhawks scored five unanswered points and Yelin called time out to break the momentum. The Cardinals stayed close but did not take their first lead until 29-28 on a Miami miscue. Taking the game into deuce, Louisville finally finished off Miami 34-32 one of Bing Sun's nine kills from the right side. Miami outhit Louisville .191 to 176 but committed two service errors and two blocking errors.
In the second game, the two teams traded points with neither team gaining more than a three point lead. Tied at 24, Louisville surged ahead going on a 6-1 spurt that took them to a 30-25 win. Sun continued to pick up the offensive chores from the right side for the injured Sonja Percan, who did not play. Sun had six kills as the Cardinals upped their hitting percentage to .282 in the second set. Serving remained a problem for the Redhawks, who had five in the second game.
The Cardinals kicked it up a notch in the third game pulling out to a quick 19-10 lead. The Redhawks used both their timeouts but couldn't stop the momentum. Sun added five more kills to her total and freshman Jennifer Hoffman came off the bench to notch three kills on four attacks snd get a pair of blocks.
