LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Ashleigh Garmon scored three goals and added an assist to lead Northwestern to a 4-0 win over the University of Louisville in women's soccer action Friday evening at Cardinal Park. The loss snaps the Cardinals' (2-3) two-game winning streak.
The Wildcats (2-1-1) got on the board at the 28:23 mark when freshman Tabitha Lowey took a pass from Garmon and found the back of the net. Eleven minutes later, Garmon scored her first goal of the night off an assist from freshman Molly Maxfield to give NU a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Northwestern senior Aileen Guiney blasted a shot that Cardinal goalkeeper Meredith Miller blocked, but Garmon was in position to knock home the rebound at 69:04. Garmon completed the hat trick at 83:53 when she took a pass at the top of the box from junior Kristen Pearce that left her all alone against Miller.
Northwestern outshot the Cardinals 17-2. Miller registered six saves on the night for the Cards.
Louisville returns to action Friday when it travels to New Orleans to open Conference USA play against Tulane.
