LOUISVILLE, KY - Freshman Nikki Ilg and senior Melissa Wark scored goals 5:35 apart in the second half to lead the University of Louisville women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over IUPUI Tuesday night at Cardinal Park.
Sophomore Meredith Miller, behind a strong defense, recorded her first career shutout.
"It's what every keeper wants, but it takes a strong team effort to get one," said Miller about the shutout.
"The team just came out with a more aggressive attitude," added Miller.
The Cards won its second consecutive game and upped its record to 2-2-0 on the season.
"It's just a matter of the team starting to gel, and playing to each others strength," said Ilg, who scored her first career goal.
Louisville outshot the Jaguars 11-1, but could not score in the first half, putting seven of those shots on goal.
Ilg broke through at the 63:15 mark with assists going to Sarah Care and Ashley Garcia. Wark tallied her second of the season at 68:50. Garcia sent a ball down the left side to Lisa Martin who fed a cross to Wark for the finish.
Louisville had a 30-2 shot advantage for the game, including six each by Megan Rasmussen and Andrea Marak.
"This was absolutely fantastic," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"This is the best 90 minutes of soccer I've seen this team play. You can credit the win to our team playing strong defense collectively."
The Cardinals will host Northwestern at Cardinal Park on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
