LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville women's soccer team was shutout by Dayton 3-0 in the 2002 home opener on Sunday at Cardinal Park.
"We were tested today by a quality team, and I was happy how we kept our shape defensively," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"This team still has a long way to go, but we are seeing progress game to game," added Ferguson.
Louisville (0-2-0) started seven freshman and four sophomores against a team that advanced to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships last season.
Dayton's Tesia Kozlowski put the Flyers(2-0-0) on the board in the 12th minute when she converted a cross from Beth McHugh for her first goal of the season.
Kozlowski then scored her second of the season and game when she lifted a free kick into the far corner of the net at the 22:03 mark for a 2-0 advantage that carried into halftime.
In the 69th minute, Shannon Kuhl fed McHugh and she slipped the ball past Cards keeper Meredith Miller for the final goal of the match.
Louisville controlled stretches of the second half and had a number of scoring opportunities that came up empty.
Louisville will next host Youngstown State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park. Admission is free.
