INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell to Butler in the team's exhibition opener Saturday 3-0.
"We are pleased with what we got out of the game," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"We set out to get everyone involved and get the freshman some experience, so as an exhibition game, we accomplished what we wanted to," added Ferguson.
The Cardinal lineup featured seven freshmen and four sophomores, while the Butler squad featured primarily upperclassmen.
Freshman midfielder Ashley Garcia had three shots, while senior Melissa Wark added two shots in the match. Sophomore Gina Lower continued her stellar play defensively.
The Cardinals open the regular season on Friday at Tennessee-Martin, whom U of L defeated 3-1 last season. The Cards open the home season Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when they face Dayton at Cardinal Park. Admission is free to all home games.
