
Softball Splits Twin Bill with UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of Louisville softball team split a doubleheader at UAB, both in extra innings in Conference USA softball action Saturday.
The Cardinals (21-24, 7-8 in C-USA) won the first game 2-1 in eight innings and then dropped the second 3-2 in nine innings. Pitcher Jessica Rak threw a complete game allowing just three hits and the run she gave up was unearned. In the second game, Rak came in to relieve Krystle Herold in the seventh inning with the score tied. She gave up just one hit and again the winning run was unearned.
"We outhit them both games but we didn't put them together in a way to score runs," said Sandy Pearsall, U of L head coach.
In the first game after six scoreless innings, Louisville finally got on the board when left fielder Shannon Nord led off with a single, a Lisa McMillan bunt moved her to second before Aja Sherman's single advanced Nord to third. Designated hitter Lisa Estes hit a sacrifice fly deep to right to score Nord.
UAB answered in their half of the seventh when Engram led off with a single and scored on an error by Kenzie Meisenburg.
Meisenburg made up for the error the next inning when she led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch.
In the second game, Louisville scored in the first inning on a Sara Bausher home run. Bausher scored again in the fifth when she reached on a single and scored on a single by Nicole Sparks.
UAB tied in the bottom of the seventh when pinch runner Sara Christophel scored for Aimee Vaughn who led off the inning with a double. and scored on a Meisenburg error. Rak was tagged with the loss in the second game.
