Softball Splits Ohio Doubleheader

ATHENS, Ohio --The University of Louisville softball team defeated Ohio University 2-0 and then lost 8-0 to the Bobcats in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday at Ohio University.
In the first game of the day, the teams played four scoreless innings before Aja Sherman hit her first career home run to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. She gave Louisville an insurance run by leading off the seventh with her second homer to make the score 2-0.
Sherman finished the game batting two for three with two runs scored and two RBI. Krystle Herold (2-6) picked up the win, posting her first career shutout, scattering four hits over seven innings and striking out four.

In the nightcap, Ohio jumped on Louisville with two runs in the first. Tiffany Bolton singled, moved to second on a base hit by Erin Chapman and scored on a Louisville error. Chapman crossed the plate on a passed ball to give OU a 2-0 lead.
Ohio had runners on second and third with one out when the scoring started in the second innings. Kelly Bankert's single scored Kim Stinson, who led off the inning with a single. Bankert came home one out later on a Cardinal error to make the score 4-0.
The Bobcats capitalized on two hits and three U of L errors to post four unearned runs in the third for the 8-0 win.
Ohio starter Val Wood (2-2) tossed a two-hit shutout over five innings and struck out five. The Bobcats improve to 6-10.
Louisville starter Jessica Rak took the loss allowing four runs, only one earned, on five hits in two innings. Sara Bausher and Lisa Estes accounted for each of the Cards' hits.
U of L (12-15) will go on the road again to play Conference USA opponent Saint Louis March 19-20.
