
Softball shuts out Columbia 8-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Louisville softball team hammered out 13 hits and senior Kenzie Meisenburg went three for three with two doubles and an inside the park home run as Louisville defeated Columbia University 8-0 in six innings Sunday at the Missouri Softball Classic.
The Cardinals scored in the bottom of the first inning when Kenzie Meisenburg led off with a walk and stole second. Sara Bausher's single moved Meisenburg to third and a double steal brought her home to give U of L a 1-0 lead,
Louisville added another run in the second inning when Lisa Estes reached on an error, moved to second on Shannon Nord's base hit and crossed the plate on a double by Meisenburg to make the score 2-0.
The fourth inning saw U of L score three more runs as Lisa Estes reached for the second time on a Columbia error, moved to second on Nord's single and crossed the plate on another double by Meisenburg. Nord and Meisenburg scored on Melissa Jacobo's single to give the Cards a 5-0 lead.
Meisenburg led off the bottom of the sixth with an inside the park home run increase the lead to 6-0. Bausher was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Keola Calderon's single, advanced to third on Jacobo's single and scored Nicole Sparks' base hit to make it a 7-0 game. Pinch hitter Jodi Thomas knocked a single down the right field line to bring in Calderon and give Louisville the 8-0 win.
Meisenburg finished the game batting three for three with two doubles and a home run, scored three runs, had three RBI and stole two bases. Jacobo went three for four and drove in two runs. Louisville starter Jessica Rak (9-5) tossed her second shutout of the season, allowing three hits in six innings and striking out one.
Louisville (9-12) will face host Missouri in their final game of the Missouri Softball Classic.
