
Cardinals Win One For the Holidays

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team used a 25-3 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to defeat Eastern Illinois 91-58 Saturday evening in Freedom Hall. Senior Lori Nero led all scorers with a career-high 26 points.
Three other Cardinals scored double figures, Connie Neal had 15, Amanda Wolke had 13 and Carol Brown registered a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. And point guard Sara Nord dished out 10 assists with eight points.
The Cardinals picked up their defensive effort in the second half and held the Lady Panthers to just 23.1 percent from the field. The Cardinals forced Eastern Illinois into 25 turnovers for the game.
Louisville shot 47.7 percent from the field and improved to 72.7 percent from the free throw line, after 16.7 percent in their last game.
The Cardinals got off to a slow start in the first half. The lead changed hands five times with eight ties before the Cards gained control with just over six minutes remaining. Sabrina Minter connected on a three-pointer to put the Cards up 27-23.
Eastern Illinois cut the lead to one with a three-pointer at the 5:04 mark. But back-to-back baskets by Wolke and Brown put the Cards ahead 30-27 and Nero's jumper at the 2:05 mark put the Cards up 33-27. Louisville finished the half with a 37-31 lead.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 27 against Ball State at 7:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
