Women's Basketball Defeats Lady Stars 76-66

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated the Reebok Lady Stars 76-66 Thursday night in Cardinal Arena. Four Cardinals scored in double figures with senior Carol Brown leading the way with 20 points.
Freshman guard Connie Neal added 16 points, all in the second half, while Angel Bradley scored 12 points and Sara Nord added 11 to round out the top scorers. Detroit Shock center Jill Chapman led the Lady Stars with 13 points and the Fever's Monica Maxwell added 12 points.
Louisville shot 43.2 percent for the game and outrebounded the Lady Stars 54-34.
Nord got the Cardinals started in the second half. She hit a three-pointer, got the steal and ran the length of the floor for a layup, putting Louisville up 44-36. The Cardinals led the rest of the way, the Lady Stars cut it to four twice but could not get closer.
In the first five minutes of the game, the Lady Stars held a 10-point advantage over the Cardinals. That sparked a 6-0 run by the Cardinals, led by Brown with a layup and two free throws.
The Cardinals stayed close the rest of the half, Nord hit a jumper to tie it up at 27 with six minutes remaining in the half. Back-to-back jumpers from Kim Graham and Brown put the Cards up four with just over four minutes remaining.
Maxwell hit a three pointer at the 2:24 mark to put the Lady Stars up by one. The lead changed hands until back-to-back layups from Tiana Ford and Nina Simotes put the Cards up 39-36 at the half.
Louisville shot 40.5 percent in the first half and outrebounded the Lady Stars 28-19.
The Cardinals will start the season on the road against Evansville on Nov. 24 at 2:00 p.m. All Cardinal games will be broadcast on WTMT 620 AM.
