MOREHEAD, KY - Freshman goalkeeper Lyndsay Seibert picked up a shutout in her first collegiate start, helping the University of Louisville women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Morehead State on Sunday.
Sophomore Leighann Carroll scored an unassisted goal, her first of the season, just 8:43 into the match for what would turn out to be the game winner.
The Cardinals carried the 1-0 lead into halftime, with Seibert making three of her four saves on the afternoon in the first stanza, in which the Cards outshot the Eagles(1-8-0) 10-6.
Louisville(5-5-1) kept the pressure on, with a 12-2 shot advantage in the second half, and the Cards closed the door on a close game with two goals in the last 12 minutes of the match.
Senior Melissa Wark knocked in her third goal of the season at the 78:01 mark for a 2-0 advantage on an assist from sophomore Lisa Martin.
Freshman Hollie Minogue sealed the match when she retrieved a pass from fellow freshman Megan Rasmussen and beat keeper Sarah Clark in the 83rd minute for the final margin. The goal was the first of Minogue's career.
Seibert and sophomore Meredith Miller now have four shutouts, one off of the school record for a U of L team, set in 1988, and equalled 1992 and 1996.
Louisville is home on Friday when they face Ohio at 7:00 p.m. at Cardinal Park. Admission is free.
