
Twelfth-ranked Charlotte Too Much for Women's Soccer

LOUISVILLE, KY - A four-goal second half lifted #12 Charlotte to a 6-1 win over the University of Louisville in women's soccer Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Park. Jill Hayes had three assists, while Courtney Crandell and Jenna Brenes each had two goals and an assist for the 49ers.
Charlotte(14-0-2, 7-0-2) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Crandell scored her 18th goal of the season after Cardinal keeper Meredith Miller made the initial save on a shot by Hayes, who was credited with an assist on he play.
Brenes notched her first of the season in the 22nd minute for a 2-0 lead that would carry into halftime.
Cardinal sophomore Lisa Martin and freshman Megan Rasmussen each had scoring chances for U of L(5-11-1, 1-7-1) in the first three minutes of the second half but couldn't capitalize.
Brenes then scored her second of the match in the 48th minute for a 3-0 lead.
"We played a solid first half," said Louisville Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"Again we created scoring opportunities, but couldn't finish. We have a chance to make it a 2-1 game, but instead, it turns into a 5-0 game and that is difficult to recover from psychologically," added Ferguson.
Charlotte scored twice more in the next seven minutes, getting Crandell's second of the match and a goal by Jennie Leeder for the 5-0 advantage.
The Cards broke through at 58:17 when Andrea Marak's shot was stopped by keeper Jenn Howell, but the rebound was left in front for Martin to pounce on for her team-leading fifth goal of the season, cutting it to 5-1.
Jill Leeder scored in the 73rd minute for Charlotte for the final margin.
Miller had six saves in net for he Cards, allowing the two goals in the first half. Charlotte outshot U of L 23-18.
Prior to the game, the Cards honored their three seniors, Liz Bradstreet, Melissa Wark and Liz Nelson, as they played their final home game at Louisville
The Cards will wrap up the regular season on Thursday against the defending Conference USA champion Cincinnati in Ohio at 7:00 p.m.
