LOUISVILLE, KY - The Saint Louis Billikens topped the University of Louisville 2-0 in women's soccer action Friday night at Cardinal Park. The Billikens improve to 12-4-1 overall with a 5-2-1 mark in conference play, while the Cards are now 5-10-1 and 1-6-1 on the season.
"I am tremendously proud of everyone on the team for tonight's effort," said U of L Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"We had a good attack, defended well and everyone came to compete for 90 minutes. This is great game to build on," added Ferguson.
The Billikens took a 1-0 lead that carried into the break when Kelly Ferguson converted a pass from Jenny Kehl just outside the top of the box in the 16th minute.
The Cards battled, and threatened to tie with a number of good scoring opportunities, but could not cash in. Sophomore Gina Lower nearly beat SLU keeper Meghann Burke on a set piece in the 50th minute, but was turned away. SLU's Jamie Perry sent home an insurance tally in the 82nd minute, her 11th of the season, tying a school record and sealing the final margin.
The Billikens had only three shots on goal to the Cardinals two, as the Bills held a 14-8 advantage on shots. Louisville has now lost five straight.
Louisville will host 12th ranked Charlotte Sunday for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park. Admission is free.
