Louisville, Ky. - The Cardinals (10-4, 2-0) used a 16-1 run midway through the first half to defeat Charlotte (8-7, 0-2) 74-52 on Friday night in Freedom Hall. Tiana Ford led Louisville with 15 points and eight rebounds and LaKisha Hoffman chipped in 10.
The score was tied at 17 with 9:57 remaining in the first half, when Ford took a Nina Simotes miss and tipped it in to spark the Cardinal run. Louisville finished the half with a 42-24 lead.
The Cardinals outscored the 49ers 40-16 in the paint. The Louisville defense held Charlotte to just 29.3 percent from the field and outrebounded the 49ers 55-39.
Louisville will be back in action on Sunday afternoon against East Carolina at 2:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
