The University of Louisville women's soccer team lost to second ranked UCLA 7-0 at the Orange and Blue Classic in Champaign, Illinois Friday night. The Bruins were national runner-up last season and the PAC-10 favorites return eight starters from that team.
"The final score of the game is not indicative of how we improved over the course of the game," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"You can never be satisfied with losing a game, but we are a young and building team, and tonight we faced a team that will be right there when it's all said and done," added Ferguson.
"We will not be the only team to lose to UCLA like that this season."
UCLA was lead by sophomore forward Lindsay Greco who had a hat trick to go with an assist. Senior Stephanie Rigamat added two goals.
Louisville freshman goalkeeper Meredith Miller made an astounding 17 saves in the effort.
Greco opened the Bruins(3-0-0) scoring at the 10:31 mark, added her second at 30:31 and closed the scoring at 85:28. U of L trailed 4-0 at halftime.
Louisville(1-1-0) opens its home schedule Sunday at 1:00 p .m. when they host Miami.
