
#25 Volleyball Sweeps TCU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Lesley Drury had 11 kills, an ace and three blocks to lead No. 25-ranked Louisville to a 3-0 sweep of TCU in Conference USA volleyball action.
Louisville, 8-1 overall, won 30-26, 30-23, 30-17 and moved their conference mark to 3-0. TCU drops to 3-8 and 1-2 in the league.
"TCU is new to our conference, and we had to kind of feel them out since this was our first meeting. I think we adjusted well to their style of play," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach. In the first game, U of L hit .220 to TCU's .171. The Cards landed 19 kiills and three aces in the30-26 tightly contested game. Middle blocker Stacey Mercer had four kills on seven attacks to lead U of L.
The Cardinals used a big run to pull away from the Horned Frogs in the second set. Down16-12, the Cardns ran off eight unanswered points to take the lead for good. The Cardinal offense switched to the outside as Percan got the call for six kills. Hitting a toasty .382 in that set, the Cardinals allowed TCU only 10 kills and forced 8 errors.
"We were coming at them from the middle and then switched to the outside and took a bit of time for them to adjust," said Yelin.
A big run in the final set sealed TCU's fate. Leading by a 13-10 edge, the Cardinals pulled away on a 9-2 run. The Horned Frogs had no answer for the Cardinal offense that outhit them .260 to .058 for the match.
The Cardinals had 11 aces, led by defensive specialist Emily Roberson's three. She also added a game-high 12 digs. Sophomore Benny Flynn had seven kills and four blocks. TCU was led by Marci King's eight kills, two aces and two blocks.
The Cardinals return to Conference USA play Sunday at 2:00 when they face Houston in Cardinal Arena.
