LOUISVILLE, KY. - An own goal gave Tulane a 3-2 win over Louisville in women's soccer action Friday night at Cardinal Park.
"Sometimes you play well enough to win, but you don't. That's the nature of this game," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
The Cardinals(1-4-0, 0-1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on freshman Jenny Starr's first career goal at the 8:51 mark. Starr headed home a cross from senior Kristin Tapp, beating Green Wave keeper Sara Simpson.
Tulane(1-3-0, 1-0-0) evened the score at 1-1 in the 33rd minute when Lindsay Morris gathered and converted a Cardinal giveaway in front of keeper Meredith Miller.
The Cards took a 2-1 lead just 1:22 later when freshman Rachel Gold corralled a mishandle by Simpson and buried it into the back of the net.
It was also Gold's first career goal in just her second game giving U of L a 2-1 edge at half.
Tulane tied things up at two in the 64th minute on a goal by Stephanie Donaldson ona kick from high and outside the box.
Tulane then scored the winning goal in the 69th minute.
The Green Wave held a 15-10 shot advantage. The game was the Conference USA opener for both teams.
