LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Designated hitter Molly Sircher went three for two and scored the 11th-inning, game-winning run to give No. 12-ranked DePaul a 1-0 win over Louisville in Conference USA softball action at Ulmer Stadium.
The loss drops Louisville to 37-21 and 12-6 in Conference USA. DePaul 42-12-1.
DePaul stranded 13 runners and scattered 10 hits but could only get one runner across the plate.
"Although I thought we might be able to sneak a win off them, I felt like the longer we went the better chance DePaul had to win," said head coach Sandy Pearsall. "It was just a matter of time, because we couldn't get anything going on offense. We couldn't touch Sarah Martz today."
Martz pitched the 11-inning complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out eight.
After ending regulation seven innings of play, the Demons finally scored in the top of the 11th when Sircher drew a walk with two outs. Tatum Allen smacked an RBI double off reliever Mandy Rockwell to score Sircher.
The Cardinals enter their final week of regular season play when they travel to Southern Miss, a team with which they are tied for second place in league play.
"We need to win two from Southern Miss and hope that South Florida can take two from DePaul to help us in the seedings going into the tournament," said Pearsall.
