
Softball Succumbs to Cats in Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Angie Dal Pazzo when three for three as a part of the University of Kentucky's sweep of the University of Louisville in collegiate softball action at Ulmer Stadium.
The Wildcats won 3-2 and 4-2 to even their record at 24-24. The Cardinals dipped to 33-16.
In the first game, the Cardinals scored first when Coleen Coughlin led off singled and scored on a wild pitch. The Cats used a three-run second inning taking advantage of two Cardinal errors to score all the runs they needed in the game. The Cardinals managed another run in the bottom of the seventh when Val Smith scored on a single by Kenzie Meisenburg.
"We didn't come out as pumped as we needed to be, " said Coughlin. "I would have to say that we beat ourselves, although Kentucky played a good game."
Morgan Marr pitched a complete game win, striking no Cardinals out, but walking only two. She boosted her record to 15-11. McClure walked five and struck out four in the loss and dropped to 16-5.
In the second game, the Cardinals scored first in the fourth inning when Coughlin scored on a UK error. However, the Wildcats scattered seven hits and added baserunners by drawing five walks off Cardinal pitcher Jessica Rak. And although they stranded 13 of them, they had the necessary runs. Monique Lovell pitched a complete game striking one and walking two. The win raised her record to 4-3.
The Cardinals were led by Coughlin's four for eight at the plate and two runs.
