LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Kenzie Meisenburg went a perfect six for six and scored six runs in the softball doubleheader that the University of Louisville split with Morehead State at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cardinals lost the first game 7-6 and then won the nightcap 7-0, improving their record to 25-12. Morehead drops to 6-15.
Louisville was plagued by errors in the first game, committing four and with only three of the seven runs given up being earned. Despite scattering 11 hits, including dobuels by Meisenburg, Keola Calderon and a home run by Melissa Jacobo, the Cardinal defense allowed Morehead two runs in the top of the seventh for the Eagle win.
"Taking care of business on defense has got to be a priority. You can't hit your way out of every jam," said head coach Sandy Pearsall.
The Cardinals buckled down in the second game with no errors. U of L had nine hits including doubles by Calderon and Jacobo. Calderon added a triple as part of her two for four, two RBI performance.
U of L jumped on starter Alicia Seaman early when she walked in two with another run scoring on a wild pitch for a three-run first. The Cards scored two in the second when Meisenburg singled and then scored on a triple by Calderon and then scored herself on a Jacobo single. Insurance runs in the fourth and fifth sealed Morehead's fate. U of L pitcher Tara McClure allowed only three hits and struck out 11 in the complete game shutout.
