Louisville, KY -- Third baseman Melissa Jacobo went four for five today with three RBIs to lead the University of Louisville to a sweep of a double header against Indiana in college softball at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cardinals won the first game 5-4 and then shut out the Hoosiers in the nightcap 5-0. U of L improves to 24-11 with IU dropping to 10-19.
"It wasn't the prettiest of games, and we got off to a rocky start. But we settled down and played better. Our bats came alive too." said Sandy Pearsall, U of L head coach.
In the first game, U of L starter Tara McClure let the Hoosiers up 2-1 in the early going. She gave up a solo homer to Brooke Monroe, her seventh of the season. McClure got help from her teammates in the form of a four-run fifth inning. Keola Calderon had a two RBI single and then scored herself on an IU error. Jacobo doubled to score Candi Padilla before Christina Soto popped out to second to end the inning.
McClure notched the win giving up four runs, two of them earned and striking out nine. Her record moves to 9-3.
In the second game, Louisville had five hits with four of them for extra bases. Jessica Rak, 10-4, pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits and striking out 10. Calderon, Padilla and Val Smith each had doubles, with Nikki Gaudio smacking a pinch hit triple for an RBI.
The Cardinals play Morehead State Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
