LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team fell to Indiana 1-0 in eight innings Sunday at the University of Kentucky Softball Invitational Tournament.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the regulation seven innings, the teams went to the international tiebreaker rule in the top of the eighth. With Candi Padilla placed at second, Louisville threatened to score when Coleen reached on an infield single, but could not capitalize. The Hoosiers' Heather Suca was placed at second and moved to third on Stormy Hanson's single. Hanson stole second and loaded the bases when Katie Joy was hit by a pitch. Suca scored on a Cardinal error to give Indiana the 1-0 win.
"We got into scoring positions, but were unable to push the runners in," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "We did get stellar pitching performances from both Mandy Rockwell and Jessica Rak."
Offensively, the Cards were led by Coughlin, who went four-for-four. Reliever Jessica Rak (5-4) took the loss, allowing one unearned run on one hit and striking out six in 4.1 innings pitched.
