
Women's Basketball Survives Overtime Scare By Marquette

Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated the Golden Eagles of Marquette 79-74 tonight in overtime at Freedom Hall. The Cardinals improve to 16-7 overall and 11-1 in Conference USA. Louisville also extended their home win record to 12-0 at home.
Marquette stunned Louisville with a 9-0 run to start the game. Louisville fought back and pull to within one late in the first half but Marquette kept the Cards down. Louisville took the lead for the first time with a three point jump shoot by Marju Sober with 0:45 remaining in the first half.
Marquette regained the lead with a three-pointer with eleven seconds remaining in the half. Marquette outrebounded the Cards 22-14 and led 33-32 at halftime.
There were ten lead changes throughout the entire second half until the score was tied at 60 with a baseline jumper from Sober with 0:34 remaing in regulation. Despite a steal and a last second attempt by point guard Sara Nord the Cards went into their second overtime game of the season.
Junior guard Kara Kessans lit up the overtime period hitting two consecutive three-pointers to lead the Golden Eagles 66-60.
With 1:20 remaining, Kessans scored on a fastbreak after blocking a Marquette three-point attempt. Marquette scored for the last time pulling within one point with 0:18 left as Janelle Antoine and Kessans clinched the game hitting fourof four from the line.
Kessans recorded a double-double scoring 24 points to lead the game and collected a team-high 10 rebounds. Nord, also finished with her fifth double-double with 11 points and 11 assists. Sober added 18 points and Shamika Ingram added eleven in the Cardinal win.
The Cards will finish out the home season with DePaul on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
