LOUISVILLE, KY - Three first half goals lead 18th ranked Marquette to a 3-0 win over Louisville in women's soccer Sunday afternoon.
"We lost today to one of the best teams in the conference, and a nationally ranked team," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"Our team never gave up, and we played a better second half than the first 45 minutes, but unfortunately we had to contend with a 3-0 deficit."
Jenny Strachota opened the scoring in the seventh minute when she converted a cross from Kristen Jensen to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. It was Strachota's fifth on the season.
Kate Gordon then put Marquette up 2-0 in the 27th minute on a pass from Carolyn Klopp for Gordon's sixth goal of the season.
Jill Venedetti capped the scoring when she broke in, was thwarted by Cardinal keeper Meredith Miller on her first attempt, gathered the rebound and scored her fourth on the year in the 35th minute.
Miller had 10 saves for the Cards who fall to 4-10-0, 2-5-0 in Conference USA.
The Golden Eagles are now 11-3-1, 7-1-0 in conference play.
Louisville will travel to North Carolina where they will have conference games against East Carolina Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Charlotte at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The Cards will close out the regular season at home against the Cincinnati Bearcats November 2 at Cardinal Park at 7:00p.m.
