LOUISVILLE, KY - Senior Jerika Amos and junior Melissa Wark scored second half goals to lead Louisville to a 2-1 win over DePaul in women's soccer action Friday night.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half, but the Cards broke the deadlock when freshman Leigh Carroll lofted a corner out front that Amos headed home in the 64th minute for her first career goal.
"Jerika scored a big time goal for us, and that was one of many great individual efforts that allowed us to collectively perform well enough to win the game," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"It is another step toward playing in the Conference USA tournament, which is ultimately our team goal this season."
In the 79th minute, Wark notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season when she raced in on the left side, gathered a lead pass from senior Amber Jolley and placed a shot into the far corner, making it 2-0 Cards.
DePaul immediately pressured and eventually broke through with Claire Sharkey's first of the year in the 84th minute.
Sharkey headed home a corner off the foot of Kelly Kamer to trim the lead.
The Blue Demons(5-9-1, 0-6-1) continued to pressure, but could not tie the game up in the waning minutes.
Freshman Meredith Miller tallied seven saves for the Cards in the win.
Louisville is now 4-9-0 on the season with a 2-4-0 mark in Conference USA games.
The Cardinals will host nationally ranked Marquette on Sunday at 1:00p.m. in Cardinal Park. Admission is free.
