
Cards Get Past the Billikens 71-67

Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Saint Louis 71-67 today in Freedom Hall. The Cardinals improve to 11-7 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Sophomore center Tiana Ford led the Cards with 14 points. Junior guard Kara Kessans recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Other Cardinals scoring in double-figures were Marju Sober with 13 and Shamika Ingram with 12.
Sophomore Christian Shelton led the Billikens with 15 points. Senior Bridgett Beckmann recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cardinals opened up the second half with a 10-1 run to pull ahead of the Billikens 48-38 in the first eight minutes. With 12 minutes remaining Saint Louis made a 7-2 run to pull within five.
The Billikens pulled with four with 3:22 remaining but it was Louisville's 10 of 12 from the foul line that kept Saint Louis at bay and the Cardinals home win steak improves to 9-0. Kessans hit five of six from the line in that stretch.
Louisville started the first half with an 8-2 run but the Billikens quickly got back in the game, tying it at eight with 16:26 remaining in the half. The went back in forth with Saint Louis taking a 26-23 lead with 8:30 remaining in the half.
At the 6:05 mark, Kessans hit a three-pointer to put the Cards up 30-28. The basket by Kessans sparked a 7-0 run by the Cardinals to take a 37-28 lead with three minutes remaining. Saint Louis then used to final three minutes to pull within one (38-37) at the half.
Louisville will travel to New Orleans to take on the Tulane Green Wave on Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
