
Cardinals Keep Home Win Streak Alive

Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Charlotte 69-51 tonight in the Kentucky International Convention Center. The Cards improve to 10-7 on the season and 5-1 in Conference USA play.
Junior guard Marju Sober led the Cards with 19 points. Sober kept a hot hand hitting 6 of 12 from the field. Three other Cardinals added double-figures, Kara Kessans and Carol Brown added 13 while Shamika Ingram chipped in 10. Charlotte was led by senior Tonya Phifer with 17 points.
The Cardinals managed to pull away from Charlotte in the final 10 minutes. Louisville managed a 19-3 run which was capped by a three-point play by Tiana Ford.
Louisville shot 50 percent from the field and 70.6 percent from the free throw line in the second half of play.
Louisville got off to a sluggish start in the first half shooting just 35.7 percent from the field. With six minutes remaining in the half, the Cards went up 23-14 on a layup by Ford. The Cards finished the half with a 30-21 lead.
The Cards finished the half with 12 turnovers which Charlotte turned into seven points.
Louisville will host Saint Louis on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
