Despite a strong first half, the University of Louisville women's soccer team was unable to follow through as they fell to Tulane 3-2 in overtime Friday at Cardinal Park.
A goal by the Green Wave's Mandy Schumacher at the 88:58 mark tied things up, and Tiffany Lawson tallied 3:24 into overtime to win the match for Tulane(5-4-0, 2-1-0).
Louisville(1-8-0, 0-3-0) jumped on top 1-0 when freshman Nicole Casavant scored her first career collegiate goal at 8:47, unassisted. Tulane evened things at one when Colleen Lake converted from Schumacher at 30:03.
But just four minutes later, freshman Anne Broadbent joined Casavant with her first of her career on a touch from Brianne Tieff.
"We had amazing rhythm in the first half and played the best 45 minutes of soccer of the season ," said Cards coach Karen Ferguson. "Unfortunately, we need to learn to sustain that effort for 90 minutes."
The Cards were outshot 14-5, including a 6-1 edge in the second half.
The red and black will host Southern Miss on Sunday at Cardinal Park at 1:00.
