Cardinal Women Blanked 2-0 By Bulldogs In Soccer

The U of L women's soccer team was shutout by Butler 2-0 on Sunday at Cardinal Park in Louisville. The loss is the fifth straight and drops the Cards to 1-5-0 on the season.
A first period tally off the foot of Butler's(4-0-1) Clayr Mimikos at the 37:04 mark off a feed from Kara Bryan. Early in the second half the Cards looked to even the match when U of L junior Brianne Tieff headed an Amber Jolley cross toward the goal that was halted by Bulldog defender Hadiatu Dumbuya. During the play, Tieff collided with Butler keeper Amber Stauch. Tieff suffered a contusion under her left eye, while Stauch was replaced after being helped off the field with a hip injury.
At the 68:31 mark, the Bulldogs Amy Morrison had an open lane down the left side of the box when she was obstructed by Cards goalkeeper Lynn Clashman. Clashman was given a yellow card and Morrison was awarded a penalty kick, which she converted to cap the scoring.
The Cards were outshot 15-7. Clashman had three saves while falling to 1-5-0.
Louisville will open Conference USA action next weekend as they visit #23 Marquette on Friday at 7:00 and DePaul on Sunday at 2:00.
